Shamar Springer has been called up to the West Indies Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, replacing Keemo Paul, who will return home due to personal and family reasons, Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed.

The 28-year-old all-rounder is yet to make his Test debut but has represented the West Indies in three ODIs and 12 T20Is. His inclusion comes after a strong batting performance in the 2026 West Indies Championship.

He had a productive run with the bat for Barbados in the 2026 West Indies Championship, scoring 251 runs in four matches at an average of 50.20. His bowling returns were less impressive, with seven wickets in eight innings at an average of 42.00.

CWI also revealed that Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were considered as possible replacements for Paul. However, both fast bowlers were ruled out due to injuries.

West Indies Miss Shai Hope and Alzarri Joseph

The West Indies will also be without white-ball captain Shai Hope and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph for the Bangladesh tour.

Hope has been rested for the series, while Joseph was withdrawn from the squad as part of the team’s workload management plans. Paul had initially been selected to replace Joseph before his own withdrawal led to Springer’s call-up.

Both Springer and Paul were part of the West Indies squad for the recent white-ball tour of India, which ended in Bengaluru on Saturday after the fifth and final T20I was abandoned.

The visitors lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 but managed to draw the five-match T20I series 2-2.

West Indies’ Bangladesh Tour Schedule

The West Indies Test squad will begin its tour with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24.

The first Test will be played in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, while the second and final match is scheduled to take place in Sylhet from November 5 to 9. Springer will be hoping to make the most of this opportunity and earn his first Test cap during the series.
