Delhi Capitals announced the appointment of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season.

The appointment will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Yuvraj’s cricket career, as he takes up his first formal coaching role. The former India star has mentored several established and young Indian cricketers in recent years and will now look to use that experience to help Delhi Capitals prepare for the upcoming season.

Yuvraj, 44, played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is for India. He was also part of two of the country’s biggest World Cup-winning campaigns, the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Yuvraj Singh Returns To Delhi Capitals

Yuvraj’s appointment also brings him back to a franchise he represented during his playing career.

In 2015, Delhi Daredevils, as the franchise was then known, signed Yuvraj for a record Rs 16 crore at the IPL auction. He became the most expensive player in IPL history at the time and went on to feature in all 14 matches for the team that season.

More than a decade later, Yuvraj will return to the Delhi setup in a coaching role, hoping to help the franchise achieve success in the IPL.

Speaking about his appointment, Yuvraj said he was excited to begin this new phase of his career and work with the team.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches.

“Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success,” Yuvraj said.

The reference to Dada is to former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is associated with Delhi Capitals.

He also had a long career in the IPL, playing 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets.

His appointment as Delhi Capitals’ assistant and batting coach will give the former all-rounder an opportunity to pass on his experience to the next generation of cricketers. With IPL 2027 approaching, the franchise will hope that his knowledge, competitive spirit and experience of playing at the highest level can help the team in its pursuit of a maiden IPL title.
