Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana has decided to switch teams in domestic cricket as he announced to leave Delhi and join Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming season.
Rana's wish to leave Delhi Cricket had earlier been confirmed by sources in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) earlier in August.
Speaking to news agency PTI, DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda confirmed the reports of Rana wanting to leave as it was reported that he didn't like getting replaced by one season-old Yash Dhull.
Rana also reportedly had problems with players in the Delhi dressing room, in particular, Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Hrithik Shokeen after the duo got involved in a heated exchange during IPL 2023 season.
"Nitish is peeved because he was dropped from the red ball team and removed from captaincy. Dhruv is annoyed as selectors dubbed him as a red ball specialist last season. Hence they want to move. Maybe president Rohan Jaitley will have a word with them but DDCA didn't even stop Virender Sehwag from leaving the state," a DDCA director told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Rana in a lengthy post thanked Rohan Jaitley - the president of the Delhi board, and announced that he was going to join Uttar Pradesh.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunities, guidance, and support that DDCA has provided me over the years. As I move on to new horizons, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey I had while captaining Delhi Cricket and express my sincere appreciation," Rana wrote in his post.
"I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Rohan Jaitley for his support and cooperation during my time with DDCA. However, I think it's time to turn the page and embark on a new chapter in my career. I have come to this decision with a lot of thought and I'm happy to announce that I'll be joining UPCA from the upcoming domestic season," the KKR captain confirmed.
