India squad for Asia Cup 2025: India's star batter Shreyas Iyer and Jitesh Sharma are all set to be recalled to India's T20I team as the selectors will announce India's Asia Cup squad next week, as the continental tournament is all set to begin from September 9 in the UAE. After Gautam Gambhir had become the head coach of the Indian team last year, neither Shreyas nor Jeetesh had played in the shortest format.
The last time Shreyas had represented India in T20Is was way back in December 2023, whereas Jitesh's last appearance for India in this format was in January last year.
As per Sportstar, the team management is planning to select an experienced middle-order batter, who can perform well in slower conditions, which would be there in the UAE. If Shreyas does get selected, then the management will have to make a tough decision of whether to include either Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh, since both of them did play against England during a T20I earlier this year.

Jitesh, due to his brilliant performance during IPL 2025, where he helped the Bengaluru-based franchise lift their maiden title, might replace Dhruv Jurel, who was Sanju Samson's backup in the series against England.
The Bumrah question
The selectors will also have to choose whether to include Jasprit Bumrah in India's T20I team. Since Mohammed Shami would be unavailable, a position for a fast bowler would be left vacant. They might either bring Bumrah back or include Prasidh Krishna, who had a dream run during IPL 2025.
Skipper Suryakunar Yadav, who has recovered from a sports hernia injury, would also be attending this meeting. His suggestions would be considered important, keeping the 2026 T20 World Cup in mind, which would be held in India next year.

Gill, Jaiswal unlikely
Speculations are rife that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal would be making a comeback to India's T20I side. But the team management would also stick to the core team, who have performed brilliantly under Gambhir's guidance, where they have won 13 out of 15 T20Is.
At the same time, since there is just a short break between the summit clash of this tournament and the first Test against West Indies, the team management would want to ensure that both Gill and Jaiswal are fresh for this Test series.
