Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion opened up on his admiration for star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli also praising the batter.

Djokovic disclosed that he remains in regular communication with Kohli and revealed that the duo have known each other for a few years.

The Serbian international Djokovic hasn't yet met Virat Kohli in person but believes himself to be fortunate enough to communicate with the format Indian captain.

Djokovic also mentioned his relationship with Kohli as positive and friendly and went on to acknowledge the cricketer's stellar career.

"Virat Kohli and I have been texting a bit for a few years. We never got a chance to meet in person, but it was really an honor and a privilege to hear him speak nicely about me. I obviously admire all of his career and achievements. I started to play cricket, but I'm not very good at it. But I have a task to perfect my cricket skills before I come to India, and don't embarrass myself when I'm there," Djokovic said in a video uploaded by Sony Sports Network.

Djokovic also opened up on his experience of trying his hands on cricket, adding that he will try to improve his skills before visiting India again.

"I started to play cricket, obviously not good at it. Let's say I have a task to improve my cricketing skills before I get to India so that I don't embarrass myself," he added.

He also went on to mention his excitement to visit India soon while recalling his only trip during his childhood.

"I have been to India only once so far in my life. It was, I think, 10 or 11 years ago. I came to play an exhibition event in New Delhi for two days. It was a very short stay. So, I really hope that I will be able to come back in the near future, too, because I have a great desire, great wish to explore your beautiful country that has so much history, so much culture to offer to the world and spirituality as well. It's amazing," the 36-year-old continued.

Djokovic will next be in action against Croatia's Dino Prizmic in his first-round fixture of the Australian Open on Sunday.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is set to make his T20I return after more than a year as he gears up for action in the second T20I match against Afghanistan.
