New Zealand paceman Kyle Jamieson will miss the remaining ODIs against Bangladesh in the current series due to a stiff hamstring, New Zealand Cricket announced on Monday. Jamieson, who experienced discomfort in his hamstring upon returning home from the test tour, bowled only four overs in the second test against Bangladesh earlier this month and was absent from the first ODI in Dunedin.

The decision to rest the towering fast bowler is aimed at avoiding any unnecessary risks with Jamieson, who has battled back injuries over the past two seasons. While he will miss the final ODIs in Nelson on Wednesday and Napier on Saturday, the management expects him to be available for the T20 series starting on December 27 in Napier.

To cover for Jamieson's absence, Wellington Firebird fast bowler Ben Sears, who was initially called up as injury cover, will remain with the squad. The 25-year-old Sears, eager for his ODI debut, last featured in international cricket over a year ago in a T20 match against the Netherlands.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead emphasized the importance of not taking unnecessary risks with Jamieson's fitness and expressed confidence in the cover provided by Sears for the remaining ODIs. The management aims to manage Jamieson's workload and ensure his availability for the upcoming T20 series against Bangladesh.

"As we flagged when naming the ODI squad we see the series as a chance to provide opportunities to some new players, and Ben fits that category," he added.

Top order batsman Finn Allen will miss the Nelson ODI to play a domestic T20 match for Auckland but will rejoin the squad for the final ODI.
