South Africa defeated Australia by 134 runs in match 10 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

The dominant win promised the Proteas the top spot in the points table, having convincingly won their first two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia respectively.

However, Thursday's match featured a couple of strange decisions that sparked controversy with Aussie batter Marnus Labuschagne and coach Andrew McDonald saying they will seek clarity from the ICC.

Two controversial DRS calls left the fans and Australian players in shock as the five-time champions lost their second match of the tournament by six wickets while chasing a tough 312-run target.

Steve Smith's LBW dismissal turned out to be a shocking one who was looking good before he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada.

Rabada's sharp inside swing hit Smith on the pads followed by the pacer's weak appeal that was turned down by the umpire.

However, skipper Temba Bavuma asked for a DRS intervention and the reply showed the ball's trajectory finding the leg stump. The reply clearly stunned the Australian camp including Smith was in complete disbelief while heading towards the pavilion.

The second controversy took place during the 18th over, that too in Rabada's over who bowled a ball down the leg side with Marcus Stoinic attempting to play it.

He only managed to get a touch from his glove before the ball found the gloves of Quinton de Kock behind the stumps.

Notably, Stoinis' right hand was clearly off the bat but the DRS ruled it out to surprise Stoinis and spectators as he was given out.

Labuschagne, who was batting at the non-striker's end, said the team would seek an explanation from the apex body.

"We will get clarity or will seek clarity because it's the World Cup," Labuschagne said.

Australia's innings collapsed from 50 for 2 to 70 for 6 as South African pacers dominated the first 20 overs.

Labiuschagne along with Mitchell Starc added some crucial runs before getting dismissed as Australia were bowled out for just 177 runs in 40.5 overs, suffering their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing tournament.
