Former Indian captain Virat Kohli, one of the most successful and celebrated cricketers in the world, faced a rare recession in his form between 2019 and 2022, and his hunt for his 71st international century was the subject of discussion and debate among fans and cricket pundits.

However, Kohli's decisiveness paid off in an Asia Cup Super 4 match against Afghanistan on September 8, shushing his critics with a remarkable 71st ton.

Kohli, who usually bat at No.3, stepped out to open for India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who was rested. India's batting talisman grabbed the opportunity with both hands to produce the knock which will always be remembered by his fans and critics.

The right-handed batter, known for his incredible consistency and hunger for runs, showcased a glimpse of vintage Kohli as he delivered a masterclass performance to slam his maiden T20I century, ending a 1020-day-long drought for his 71st century.

The former captain hammered 122 runs off 61 balls and his memorable knock featured 12 fours and 6 sixes. Most importantly, the fans' favourite Kohli raised the hopes of many with his impressive performance to follow.

Before his 71st international century, Kohli last slammed a hundred in any format was in November in a Test match against Bangladesh.

His century drought became the talking point in the cricketing world as the right-handed batter had set high standards and benchmarks throughout his career.

Kohli's focus never wore off as he always contributed to Team India in their success in three formats.

In the match against Afghanistan, his partnership with KL Rahul was vital for Team India as their stand laid a strong foundation for Men in Blue. He hammered a half-century in just 32 balls and edged closer to the maiden T20I ton, displaying masterful strokes and a full range of shots.

However, he accelerated his inning in the death overs, slamming maximums with ease with a few audacious deep wicket shots. His aggressive approach led him to his maiden T20I century. By the end of the innings, he remained unbeaten with his innings of 122 off 61 balls.
