IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Just one year back on 29th June, Indian cricket achieved yet another brilliant milestone. On 29th June 2024, they won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in a seven-run victory during the summit clash against South Africa in Kensington Oval, Barbados. This wasn't just a victory but it also ended their 17-year old ICC trophy drought.

As far as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is concerned, who had last won an ICC title way back in 2007, this win was very special. As it was the first time, that he had won any ICC title as the captain led the team from the front, and inspired many players.

And when the Men in Blue celebrated, two legendary Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format, as they stepped aside feeling proud and completely satisfied. They couldn't have gotten a more perfect ending than this in their last T20I match.

Rahul Dravid, who was one of the most graceful coaches of the Indian team, also ended his stint as the coach on a high. After suffering heartbreaks multiple times losing in semifinal matches to making group stage exit during the 2021 T20 World Cup were all erased by a side that rose to the occasion when it mattered the most.

It wasn't just a victory in Barbados for them but a legacy created.

Kohli guides India

While batting first, the Rohit Sharma-led side suffered huge blows as batters like Rohit himself, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant were dismissed early and none of them could score in double digits. Virat Kohli and Axar Patel then helped the team bounce back by stitching a match-winning partnership of 72 runs.

Axar batted aggressively as he scored a brilliant knock of 47 runs off 31 balls, in which he had smashed one four and four sixes and then was dismissed by run out. Kohli played the role of a second fiddle and stayed at the crease till the last over and scored a match-winning knock of 76 runs off 59 balls, where he had smashed six fours and two sixes.

Shivam Dube too made a significant contribution by scoring 27 runs off 16 balls and helped the team post a respectable target of 176/7. Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were the pick among the South African bowlers as they took two wickets apiece.

India snatch victory

South Africa's run chase became quite dramatic. Opener Quinton-de-Kock and Tristan Stubbs scored gritty knocks of 31 and 39 runs but the Men in Blue were still having a slight lead. When the Proteas needed just 54 runs to win the match during the last six overs, both teams were still in contention to win the match.

Axar Patel had conceded 24 runs during the 15th over as Heinrich Klaasen smashed fifty off just 23 balls. And when South Africa needed just 30 runs to win the match in the last five overs, the momentum shifted in their side and only a miracle could have saved the Rohit Sharma-led side.

The Rohit Sharma-led side then made a brilliant comeback and tried to stop South Africa. Hardik Pandya was told to defend 16 runs during the last over and he did that brilliantly.

Suryakumar Yadav took a brilliant catch while standing at long-off and helped the team dismiss David Miller, who had scored 21 runs. The match then shifted in India's favor as Hardik conceded just one run in the last ball and then they began celebrating.
