Padma Awards: Renowned tennis icon Vijay Amritraj was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, while captain of the Indian women's team Harmanpreet Kaur and former men's team skipper Rohit Sharma received the Padma Shri as the prestigious Padma Awards were announced on January 25.

Tennis icon Amritraj received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour. He was previously honoured with the Padma Shri (1983) and Arjuna Award (1974). Other notable awardees included Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Praveen Kumar, and Savita Punia, who received the Padma Shri.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who led India to World Cup victory on home soil in 2025, and Rohit Sharma, a stalwart ODI batter with 650 runs last year, were among the Padma Shri awardees. Notably, Rohit had brought curtains on his Test retirement in 2025.

Posthumous recognition was given to former wrestling coach Vladimir Mestvirishvili.

The Centre announced the Padma Awards 2026, approving 131 civilian awards across three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
