PAK vs UAE, Asia Cup 2025: Following a tense pre-match period involving controversies on Wednesday, another intense moment was added as a backdrop to the clash between Pakistan and UAE, as on-field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was struck on the ear by a throw during the Asia Cup 2025 clash.
The dramatic moment unfolded in the sixth over of UAE’s chase when Sri Lankan umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was struck on the left ear by a Pakistan fielder while his back was turned.
Palliyaguruge appeared visibly dazed, holding on to his ear, which seemed red, prompting Pakistan fielders to immediately rush to his aid. The team physio was quickly called up on the pitch, and after a brief delay, he went off the pitch, leading umpire Gazi Sohel to replace Palliyaguruge on the field.

Summarising the match, the Pakistan national cricket team defeated an inexperienced United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 41 runs in their final group stage match of the Asia Cup on Wednesday.
With the convincing victory, Pakistan added another chapter to its rivalry and stakes in the tournament against traditional foes India, setting up their second clash of the high-octane tournament against Men in Blue in Super 4, taking place on September 21.
The match started an hour late as Pakistan threatened a pull-out after the handshake fiasco during the previous game against India before Salman Agha's team climbed down and showed up for the game.
It was pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi, who first slammed an unbeaten 29 off 14 balls to support what still otherwise looked a modest total of 146/9.
In their pursuit of a target against Pakistan, the UAE suffered a dramatic collapse as the side crumbled from 85/3 after 14 overs to 105 all-out in 17.4 overs.
