Paris Olympics 2024: Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem etched his name in the history books as he won the country's first-ever individual Olympic gold medal.

Arshad broke the Olympic record in his second attempt by touching a distance of 92.97 m to win a historic yellow metal in the men’s javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.

Nadeem, who finished fifth in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, stunned everyone with two 90m-plus throws to finish ahead of India’s Neeraj Chopra and Grenada’s Anderson Peters.

Arshad's gold also was Pakistan's first Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

Acknowledging the monumental achievement of the 27-year-old athlete, Pakistan's star batter and T20I captain Babar Azam took to his social media to send him warm wishes.

However, Babar made a factual error in his congratulatory message for which he is getting trolled heavily on social media.

In his viral tweet, Babar wrote, “After 30 long years, the gold is back in Pakistan! Huge congratulations to @arshadnadeem29 for this incredible achievement. You’ve made the entire nation proud.”

Notably, Babar congratulated Nadeem for bringing gold back to Pakistan after 30 years but fans were quick to spot that the country's last Olympic gold came 40 years ago and the star athlete is their first-ever individual Olympic gold medal winner.

Babar also tagged Arshad Nadeem incorrectly in his tweet.

They haven't won any other individual gold medal apart from Arshad's victory at the Paris Games.

Pakistan has won three gold medals at the Olympics, but all of them came in the men’s hockey competition. Their last title win was way back in 1984, which is 40 years ago.

On the other hand, India's star athlete and Tokyo Games gold medalist Neeraj Chopra hailed Arshad on his gold medal victory.

"He produced an excellent throw. In sports, sometimes it's your day, sometimes it's someone else's. Maybe god's blessings were more with Arshad today. I tried my best and I am happy with the distance I managed to throw," Neeraj said.

Apart from Babar, star Pakistani cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Haris Rauf, and Shoaib Akhtar also took to X to congratulate Nadeem for the historic achievement.
