PBKS vs MI Highlights, IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians survived Ashutosh Sharma's scare to beat Punjab Kings by nine runs in a close IPL 2024 encounter in Mullanpur on Thursday.
Ashutosh's maiden IPL half-century steered the home side close to the winning target but Gerald Coetzee picked his wicket in the second last over of the innings to confirm victory for the visiting side. He played a knock of 61 runs off 28 balls studded with seven sixes and two fours.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted a total of 192/7 in their 20 overs as Suryakumar Yadav scored 78 runs in 53 balls on the back of seven fours and three sixes whereas Rohit Sharma played an inning of 36 runs in 25 balls.
Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with three wickets for 31 runs whereas Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada contributed with two and a wicket respectively after Punjab Kings invited the visitors to bat first.
PBKS vs MI Highlights:
9:30 PM: "That teaches you there are ups and downs in life (on his scores this season). It is going really well, I am almost there, I have started fielding and training, hoping I will be on the field for the whole 40 overs. Nothing much (on his celebration), there was a batters meeting and we spoke about a batter batting for 15-16 overs, took a little more time today but once Rohit got out, someone had to bat deep. There hasn't been dew and if that is the case then it is way above par," said Suryakumar Yadav at the mid-innings break.
9:22 PM: Mumbai Indians have posted a huge total of 192/7 in their 20 overs against Punjab Kings after being put into bat first. Suryakumar Yadav was the top run-getter for them with a knock of 78 runs whereas Rohit Sharma scored 36 runs in 25 deliveries.
9:05 PM: Harshal Patel gets his first wicket of the match as he dismissed MI skipper Hardik Pandya for 10. 11 runs came off the 18th over.
9:00 PM: Curran with another and it's a crucial one. Suryakumar Yadav finds the fielder inside the circle and departs for 78 off 53 with Prabhsimran making no mistake with the catch.
8:47 PM: Big over for MI as 15 runs came off it.
8:28 PM: Skipper Curran gets the big breakthrough as he removes Rohit Sharma. He was hit on the helmet on the previous delivery and maybe lost his concentration on the next ball. He departs for 38 as MI go two down.
8:20 PM: Suryakumar Yadav reaches his half-century. 10 runs came off that 11th over.
8:15 PM: This has been a remarkable partnership between Rohit and Suryakumar as they have added more than 50 runs for the 2nd wicket. Punjab are in desperate need for a wicket or two here. Nine runs came off that 9th over bowled by Harpreet Brar.
7:55 PM: Good over from Harshal as he gave away just seven runs. He almost got Rohit but the former MI skipper survived after a successful DRS result.
7:39 PM: Wicket! Kishan has hit that straight to the fielder in the deep. Wasn't the best of deliveries from Rabada but he was fortunate enough that Harpreet Brar was placed just at the right spot and made no mistake with the catch. Kishan departs for 8.
7:30 PM: Rohit and Kishan have taken the crease for Mumbai Indians whereas Liam Livingstone has the new ball in hand for the hosts.
7:13 PM: Mumbai Indians Subs: Akash Madhwal, Nuwan Thushara, Kumar Kartikeya, Piyush Chawla, Naman Dhir

7:10 PM: "We wanted to bat first as well, so good toss to lose. We don't judge (our performances), a couple of times we had the game in our grasp and didn't finish the game, IPL tests you, and when the game is not over it is not over. We just take it game by game, go out there and give our 100 per cent. Every individual should commit to the team's goal and once we do that, the results will be seen. Same team," MI captain Hardik Pandya said at the toss.
7:08 PM: "We will have a bowl. Keeping up with the trend of the tournament. Shikhar is not well, so that's the only injury and Rilee comes in for Jonny today. It is not nice to lose the close games but we are doing a lot of things right. Taide drops out of the side, just a couple of tactical changes," PBKS skipper Sam Curran said at the toss.
7:05 PM: Rohit Sharma becomes only the second player after MS Dhoni to achieve the milestone of 250 IPL appearances.
7:00 PM: Punjab Kings have won the toss and have opted to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in match 33 of IPL 2024.
6:54 PM: Mumbai on the other hand is having a disastrous season this year. The Hardik Pandya-led side has suffered four losses this year and is struggling at the ninth position on the points table just above RCB.
6:52 PM: Punjab suffered a defeat on April 13 when the team clashed with table toppers Rajasthan Royals. Punjab was reduced to 147/8 in 20 overs. In return, Rajasthan, despite the failure of the top order, managed to win the match by three wickets.
6:50 PM: Toss will take place at 7 pm for another high-octane clash between Punjab Super Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Both teams are eyeing to bounce back from defeats in the match.
