Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has pledged to address the issues plaguing Pakistan cricket after the team's shocking 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the first Test.
The defeat, which occurred on Sunday in Rawalpindi, drew scathing criticism from former players, including Shahid Afridi, Muhammad Hafeez, and Fawad Alam.
In response to the backlash, Naqvi assured that "changes are on the way," hinting at a potential overhaul to rectify the team's performance.
“I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way,” Naqvi said while talking to media.
Contrary to expectations, the national team's squad remained unchanged for the first Test against Bangladesh, with the same senior players featuring under Shan Masood's captaincy.
This decision came despite PCB Chairman Naqvi's earlier assurance of "changes" following the team's poor performance. Masood's fourth consecutive Test defeat since taking over in December has only added to the scrutiny surrounding the team's selection and the PCB's willingness to implement meaningful changes.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the status quo is unsustainable and that significant changes are imminent in Pakistan cricket, promising a new era of transformation and improvement.
“Remember my words that things will not remain the same and a lot is happening in the background,” he said.
Pakistan's struggles in Test cricket at home continue unabated, despite the recent overhaul of their technical staff. The team has now gone without a Test win on home soil since 2022, suffering series defeats to England and Australia. This latest loss to Bangladesh, their first-ever Test defeat to the Tigers, only adds to the woes of the Pakistan team, highlighting the need for further improvement.
