Pakistan T20 World Cup Exit: Pakistan cricketers have reportedly been slapped with a heavy fine by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the wake of their disappointing performance and departure from the T20 World Cup 2026 in the Super Eight stage.
According to The Express Tribune, the PCB has imposed a hefty fine of 5 million Pakistani rupees (approximately 16.28 lakh Indian rupees) on each player of the national team. Reports claim that the board decided to take this drastic action after the crushing defeat to India in the group stage.
As per the reports, PCB officials believe that if players are incentivised for strong performances, they should also be held responsible for poor showings.
The report further claims that this decision was made after Pakistan's defeat to India in the group stage. Pakistan lost their Super 8 match against England and secured a narrow win over Sri Lanka, but it wasn't enough to secure them a place in the semi-finals.
The report said that the board officials were extremely disappointed with the team's performance and chose to impose heavy penalties on the players for once again failing to reach the semi-finals of an ICC tournament.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly planning to overhaul Pakistan's T20 setup, and Salman Ali Agha might lose his captaincy in the process.
Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi are being viewed as potential replacements for Agha. Some senior players, including Babar Azam and Usman Khan, might also be booted out of the T20I setup.
“Naqvi is not happy at all because this time he was assured by the selectors, team management, and his close aides in the board that the team was set to do well in the World Cup," news agency PTI quoted a source as saying.
“Salman, Babar Azam, Usman Khan and a few others will probably see curtains on their T20 international career after the World Cup," the source added.
