Prithvi Shaw, India's young batter, has been going through an immensely tough period in his cricketing career and recently was dropped from Mumbai's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In the latest update amid all the chaos, Shaw has been asked to play in the Police Shield Invitational Tournament, where he is set to lead the Mumbai Colts team.
After the Vijay Hazare Trophy snub, Shaw came up with a series of Instagram stories to express his frustration but his reactions didn't go well with many with several issues coming to light.
Shaw's fitness and discipline have been put under the scanner.
Talking about the Police Shield Invitational Tournament, it is a competition that involves two-day matches at various venues around Mumbai.
Shaw, who made his debut for India in 2018, had a tough outing in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which Mumbai won under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. The right-handed batter didn't even reach the 200-run mark in the entire tournament, and his only substantial knock came during the quarter-final against Vidarbha.
"In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it," a MCA official was quoted by PTI as saying.
"Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players," the official added.
Prithvi Shaw's struggle in IPL
Shaw also went through a disappointing phase in IPL lately having scored just 198 runs for Delhi Capitals last season at an average of 24.75.
As a result, Shaw was not retained by DC and went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer had also said that Shaw needs to get his work ethic right and if he can do so, then sky will be the limit for him.
"He needs to get his work ethics right, if he does, the sky's the limit for him. We cannot babysit anyone. At the end of the day, it's his responsibility to figure out things for himself," Shreyas Iyer said after Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win.
