“There were three players that I wanted to bring in. One who has been at Punjab Kings for three or four yearsArshdeep Singh. I also wanted to bring in a captain who I have worked with before and who has had a lot of success. So, we went after Shreyas Iyer. I also wanted to bring in Yuzi. So the Indian guys that we have are perfect," Ricky Ponting was quoted as saying on the Howie Games podcast.

“And then, we had to make a few tweaks as the auction went on to make sure we ended up with a really good squad. I am trying to make things different and rebuild and have the right people around me. But these three were non-negotiables," he concluded.

Chahal also had attended the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 summit clash with RJ Mahvash. He and his wife Dhanashree Varma had recently filed for divorce.

Yuzvendra Chahal was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of Rs 18 crore and was also involved in an intense bidding war during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He also became the most expensive spinner in the tournament's history and thus surpassed Wanindu Hasaranga, who was bought by RCB for a whopping amount of Rs 10.75 crore during the 2022 IPL auction.
