PBKS vs CSK IPL 2025: Punjab Kings star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been punished by the BCCI for breaking IPL's code of conduct in their match against CSK on Tuesday. Maxwell has been given a 25 percent fine of his match fee and also got one demerit point due to the offense and has become the sixth player to have been given a fine during the ongoing season.
The board didn't exactly mention why he was fined but the all-rounder admitted to committing Level 1 offense as per Article 2.2 of IPL's code of conduct. This article has the provision of “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.” GT's star fast bowler Ishant Sharma too was fined due to the same reason in their IPL 2025 match against SRH.
"Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets, and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offense may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board," the article said.
The incident happened in a match, where the Shreyas Iyer-led side won by 18 runs against CSK in their backyard, on the back of a match-winning hundred by Priyansh Arya. Although Maxwell had a forgetful outing with the bat as he could score just one run, he did perform brilliantly with the bowl as he registered figures of 1/11. He took Rachin Ravindra's wicket, which played a huge role in helping them win the match.
Even after being fined, his brilliant bowling helped the hosts rattle CSK'stop-order batting lineup and also played a huge role in helping them defend their mammoth target of 218 runs. But his inconsistent performances as a batter have become worrisome for the Punjab-based franchise.
Other players like Digvesh Singh, Rishabh Pant, and Riyan Parag have also been handed hefty fines for breaking IPL's code of conduct or owing to slow over-rates. The board's attempts to uphold discipline have only become stricter ever since the new rules were implemented before the ongoing season.
