The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently extended the contract of Rahul Dravid, a former Indian captain, as head coach of the men's senior team after their remarkable performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The contract of the whole coaching staff was extended until the Twenty20 World Cup in June but there are indications that the negotiations regarding a long-term extension will be decided after the South Africa tour.
The Board claimed the lack of time as the reason for not being able to conclude the interim decision.

"We did not have time. We met with them and mutually agreed that he can continue. Once they return from South Africa, we will sit with him and decide on the tenure," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in Mumbai on Saturday.
Dravid's original tenure was up to the ODI World Cup which concluded on November 19. The regular coaching staff was given a short rest for the recently concluded T20I series against Australia at home.
Dravid and the team will return to action for an eight-game, month-long assignment in South Africa, departing on December 6.
It seems that the decision on the possible long-term contract extension for Dravid and his coaching staff could be made upon their return next month.
Shah also went on to mention that it is yet to be assured that Rohit Sharma will be a part of the T20I setup going forward. However, it looks most likely that he should be picked for the T20 World Cup next year in June in the Caribbean and the United States.
Rohit hasn't been a part of the T20I team since the T20 World Cup last year and Hardik Pandya has led the side in his absence in the shortest format of the game.
However, Suryakumar Yadav was named the skipper for the three-match T20I series on South Africa tour as Rohit has been rested alongside Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for the white-ball led whereas Pandya is out due to an ankle injury.

"The tournament (Twenty20 World Cup) starts in June. There's the IPL before that and the series against Afghanistan. We will take a good decision," the BCCI secretary said.
Rohit has won 24 matches out of the 28 matches as India's T20I captain so far and has a high win percentage of 85.71%. He lost only one series as India's captain in 2019 against New Zealand.
