RCB vs DC Highlights, IPL 2023: RCB Beat Delhi Capitals By 23 Runs, Suffers Fifth Consecutive Defeat

"It was a tricky one. When it went up in the air, I made sure there was no one close to me. I made sure I grabbed it solidly. I was quite disappointed that I got out to a full toss. I've been playing really well. One thing I mentioned to the guys in the change room that 175 was enough on this pitch. It slowed down considerably. We did well to get to that score and had the belief it was enough. When I've played my best cricket, those are the balls I've put away consistently. When I put away their best balls, it puts pressure on the bowlers. We kind of let it slip away last two games. That was a different mentality and phase altogether (T20 World Cup 2016 semis). I back myself to hit good shots. When they come off they look good," Kohli said after the match.

"We needed that to get the confidence back in the group. Especially the bowling group. Defending a total is not always easy at the Chinnaswamy, so very proud of them. It's the first day game of the season. Also the new rule now - you always feel you need more. 175 in a day game here is a good score. But with the new rule there's some uncertainty. Generally the first six overs is more important. The way we bowled was just unbelievable. Huge credit to our seamers in the first six," said Faf du Plessi after the win.

"I said at the toss we needed to do all disciplines well, but we lost three early wickets and we didn't chase down what should have been an easy chase. They (RCB) came out and started well with the ball, Siraj was outstanding. The positives were good - bowling and fielding was exceptional, the energy we showed was great too. Have to go back, we have five days off, have a hard look at ourselves, we need to do better with the bat and build partnerships at the top of the order. It is a matter of starting well with the bat. Teams have come back well from this position before and we can go on and do better," said David Warner at the post-match presentation.

Royal Challengers Bangalore defeat Delhi capitals by 23 runs as David Warner-led side suffered their fifth consecutive defeat of the season. 

Debutant Vyshak returned with the figures of 3-20 in his four overs spell. Lalit Yadav (4) became his third wicket of the evening. Delhi are very far from the winning score.

Manish Pandey falls just after scoring fifty. He was trapped in front of the wicket by Wanindu Hasaranga in the 14th over. Delhi Capitals have a very rare chance to win the match from here. 

Delhi Capitals 108/7 after 15 overs.

Manish Pandey completes a 37-ball fifty in the tough times for Delhi. His stay at the crease will decide the fate of this match.  

There is no end to Delhi's misery as they are losing wickets at regular intervals. Axar Patel (21) was picked up by debutant pacer Vyshak to take his second IPL wicket. 

Abishek Porel could not hold the pressure and was picked by Harshal Patel for 5 runs. Delhi have lost their half side chasing 175-run. Manish Pandey and Axar Patel re in the middle.  

Another wicket for RCB as Delhi Capitals suffered a batting collapse in the powerplay. David Warner to falls in the final over of the field restrictions as debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak sent him back to the pavilion. 

Bad start for Delhi Capitals as they lost three wickets inside three overs of the powerplay. Prithvi Shaw (0), Mitchell Marsh (0) and Yash Dhull (1) fall cheaply in the 175-run chase.

Delhi made a great comeback in the match as they restricted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to 174/6 in 20 overs.   

For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav and Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets each.

Anrich Nortje kept it tight in the death over as only 8 comes off it. Anuj Rawat slams four on the last ball of the over otherwise it would have been very tight for Delhi.   

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) 154/6 after 18 overs.

What an over for Delhi Capitals and Kuldeep Yadav! The chinaman spinner scalped two wickets on successive balls to remove Glenn Maxwell (24) and Dinesh Karthik (0) and break the back of RCB's batting lineup.

Despite Kohli's wicket off the first ball of the over, Maxwell turned it into a big over for RCB. He hit two big sixes in the over to gather 14 runs from the over.

Lalit Yadav strikes the jackpot as he sent Virat Kohli back to the pavilion after scoring 50. Yash Dhull grabbed a nice catch at the boundary rope to break the second-wicket partnership between Kohli and Lomror. 

Virat Kohli smashes 33-ball fifty. Another brilliant knock from Kohli's bat. His 47th half-century in the IPL. Meanwhile, the ongoing partnership between Kohli and Lomror is racing toward the 50-run mark as both batters look solid at the crease.  

RCB 89/1 after 10 overs.

Delhi have restricted RCB to inside 50 despite inform batters Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Marsh got rid of the latter but Kohli is still at the crease. RCB will be looking to increase the run rate from here.   

Mitchell Marsh gives Delhi some respite as he clinches Faf du Plessis for 22 after Aman Hakim Khan grabbed a stunner at midwicket. Mahipal Lomror comes in to bat at no.3 for RCB. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) 43/1 after 5 overs.

Faf du Plessis has also started taking on bowlers and smashed consecutive four off Mustafizur Rahman in the third over. Virat Kohli is also looking good from the other end.

"Four matches have not gone well, but we've kept things simple. It's time to upgrade our skills. This is a very important game. A win can get you into rhythm, which we're trying to find. We are like a family. The environment is good, it's a matter of one win. Of course there is disappointment of losing four in a row despite such good players. But we've forgotten about the four defeats, and are approaching this game as a fresh start. Have tried different things in these four matches, but nothing has worked out (with the bat). So today I've come in with a blind mindset. Will see the ball and play my natural game," said Prithvi Shaw before the clash.

"Would have done the same. Hopefully it will turn in the second innings. This stays a good wicket generally. Will be important for me and Virat to assess the conditions early. It's difficult to defend in death overs. We have been good at our home ground as a batting unit. You got to pick your best batters and bowlers. Hasaranga comes in for Willey," said Faf du Plessis at the toss.  

"We are going to bowl first. The ground looks incredible, credit to the staff here. It's about getting one win, the momentum follows from there. We don't want to lose wickets in the powerplay. We have change. Marsh comes in for Powell," said David Warner at the toss.

Skipper David Warner has smashed three half-centuries in the season so far but his low strike rate has become a point of debate among the cricketing circle. Interestingly, Warner hasn't hit a single six thus far.

Australian opener will look to improve his record today at Chepauk.
 

"We're playing at the pitch number 8 and the square boundaries are at 61m and 66m while the straight boundary on one side is 70m. The average 1st innings score in afternoon games here is 157, it looks dry and there shouldn't be a lot of lateral movement," reckon Daren Ganga and Sanjay Manjrekar, in their pitch report.
