Royal Challengers Bengaluru women have won their second WPL title after beating Delhi Capitals. Skipper Smriti Mandhana led the team from the front in a mammoth run chase of 204 runs with two balls remaining.

Mandhana smashed a match-winning knock of 87 runs off 41 balls along with Georgia Voll and stitched a partnership of 165 runs. After Voll got out, they needed 30 runs off 21 balls to win the match.

DC was able to bounce back as they stopped RCB when they needed 22 runs off 17 balls, leaving them with 8 off the last four balls. Radha Yadav took the team across the line by scoring the winning runs.

Lauren Bell bowled brilliantly during the first innings. She went wicketless but gave away just 19 runs in the four overs that she bowled. The target of 200 runs in a final was gettable. Mandhana lauded both Bell and Voll for their brilliant performances.

ā€œOf course, 200-plus in the final is definitely a good score. I thought that in the last four overs, we definitely bowled well and pulled it [back] a little better. Again, credit to Lauren Bell. I mean, 400 [runs scored] in a match and she goes for like four overs, 20-odd runs. That, for me, is a match-winning spell,ā€ said ESPNcricinfo.

ā€œVolly led the way. She had almost all the strikes in the power play, but her intent was really spot-on. And I remember telling the girls 10 or 15 days back that I have a feeling that Volly will get a match-winning knock in the final and [I’m] thrilled, really happy for her. She’s been working extremely hard on her game. I saw her practicing extra in the last two to three days. So I’m happy that it came, it paid off for her,ā€ she added.

As for DC, they still fell short of winning another title. They have now lost four consecutive finals. They did have an upper edge after the first innings, but failed to stop RCB's top order. They did take the wicket of Grace Harris early, but couldn't do much after that.

DC will try to bounce back in the next season as skipper Jemimah Rodrigues lauded the team despite losing another final.

ā€œI think I couldn’t be prouder of this team. It wasn’t easy for us, but the kind of character our girls showed for us to just make it to the finals is something I’m so proud of. And you know, I couldn’t ask for anything better,ā€ Jemimah Rodrigues told ESPNcricinfo.

ā€œHats off to the way we played as a team. I think we’ve been great. You know, if ever you wanted our team to fire and click, it was today. And I think we did that really well. There’s always, you know, ā€˜okay, we could have done this better, that better.’ But I think everyone fought hard, everyone gave their all, and sometimes that’s all that’s important,ā€ she added.

This was yet another brilliant year for both RCB and their loyal fans. They are the first team to win two WPL titles and win both IPL and WPL titles at the same time.

DC's lower order made significant contributions and helped the team post a target of 203/4. Laura Wolvaardt’s gritty knock of 44 runs was scored at a strike rate of 176, which was the best of their top 4. Chinelle Henry then provided a late surge by scoring 35 runs off 15 balls.
