Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has shown his interest in coaching another IPL team after he was sacked from Delhi Capitals, where he was the head coach for seven years. His departure from the team was mainly due to their inability to win an IPL title under his guidance.
During an interaction on the ICC Review podcast, Ponting talked about his time with the Delhi Capitals and admitted that their inability to win a title was one of the biggest reasons for his sacking. "I'd love to coach again in the IPL. I've had a great time every year that I've been involved, whether as a player in the early days or as head coach at Mumbai before joining Delhi", Ponting was quoted as saying on the ICC Review Podcast.
He also revealed that there are high chance that Delhi Capitals might be looking for an Indian coach for the next few seasons. "What you'll find is that they'll probably end up with an Indian-based head coach. They made it pretty clear that they wanted to head in a different direction with someone that could give them a bit more time and availability through the off-season," he added.

Despite his being sacked, he thanked the franchise for the experience that he got and said, "I'm thankful for my time there, met some great people, worked with some great players through the years. There could be a few opportunities for me popping up in the next couple of months, and I'd love to be back coaching in the IPL again next season."
Although he is looking for coaching jobs from other IPL teams, he has ruled out the possibility of taking up international coaching jobs, which also includes the coaching position of England's white-ball team after Matthew Mott's departure, he said, "No, I wouldn't ever consider doing that".
Ponting was also asked to become England's Test team head coach but it was New Zealand's Brendon McCullum, who took up the job eventually.
“I'm on record saying that international jobs for me right now, are not really where my life is at, as there's just so much more time taken up with an international job. Coaching other international teams is one thing, coaching England for an Australian is probably something slightly different, but right now there's sort of enough on my plate as I've got a bit more coming up in the next couple of months in the UK,” he concluded.
