IND vs ENG 3rd Test: England has gone back to Jofra Archer post suffering a heartbreaking loss against India at Edgbaston. India had defeated England by 336 runs and had made a brilliant comeback thus leveling the series. And now that the focus has shifted to London, the hosts have included Archer, who will be coming back to this format after four years.
On the eve of the match, the Ben Stokes-led side revealed they're playing XI for the upcoming Test match at Lord's. Archer had replaced Josh Tongue in the playing XI and have strengthened their bowling attack against a formidable Indian batting side. But it remains to be seen how their star fast bowler performs in the match, considering the amount of time he has spent away from the longest format.
And as the Shubman Gill-led side prepares to take a lead in the ongoing series, India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant will face Archer and this would be one key battle to watch out for. Before the match, in the pre-match press conference, Pant talked about facing Jofra Archer.
“Personally, whenever I step on the field, I always enjoy my cricket and try to give my 200%. Not particularly about any individual, just being on the field. Yes, it’s going to be a good contest always because he’s also coming back after a long break. Let’s see how it goes. Yes, I’m happy he’s back" Pant told reporters during the pre-match press conference.
The camaraderie with Captain Shubman Gill
Ever since senior players like Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from this format, Gill and Pant have taken over the reins of the team. Both of them are seen getting involved in intense discussions on the field and have always come out in each other's support.
Talking about their bond, Pant revealed that it's the trust that they have shown each other, and that's what is shown on the field.
“When you have a good camaraderie in the field, I think it eventually shows on the field. And that is exactly what happened. What’s happening because you know, when two people trust each other, it’s easier to do the same thing. That communication is better on the ground. And hopefully we can we can do the same thing with the whole team going forward, and Justice make it one big unit. You should be there," he concluded.
