After the thumping 10-wicket win against Sri Lanka to lift the record eighth Asia Cup title in Colombo on Sunday, India will be focusing on the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, commencing on Friday, September 22.

India captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of the men's selection committee Ajit Agarkar will announce the squad at 8:30 PM today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed.

India will be confident with the performance of their World Cup squad in the Asia Cup as the side ticked all boxes but injuries to Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel are a new threat for the side.

While Iyer is almost fit to play in the ODIs against Australia, but Patel is likely to miss the series due to his hamstring injury. He is also doubtful for next month's ODI World Cup.

The return of KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah have bolstered India's squad with both players proving their skills in the continental tournament.

From the squad that featured in the Asia Cup, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are likely to be dropped from the 17-member list. Both players got a chance in the dead rubber against Bangladesh which India lost by six runs.

The other expected change will be all-rounder Washington Sundar replacing Patel in the squad. Sundar was chipped in for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka after Patel sustained injury during the clash against Bangladesh.

In the batting department, there will not be any surprise picks as Rohit, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan and Rahul will be the top five batters.

Sanju Samson and Tilak will be in consideration to replace Iyer in the squad.

Vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur will be the first-choice all-rounders for the side along with Sundar.

Premier speedster Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the pace bowling department along with Mohammed Siraj and veteran Mohammed Shami.
