Rohit Sharma has hit the headline as he dropped a major hint regarding his future and participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States.

Sharma is among the few senior players who have been out of T20I action for the Men in Blue for nearly nine months.

With Hardik Pandya currently leading the T20I side, there have been speculations around Rohit's future in the shortest format with the team approaching towards a new brigade moving forward.

Though the likes of Rohit and Virat haven't quit the format, the two continue to remain sidelined in T20s, especially after the selectors and team management decided to try fresh faces post India's exit from the T20I World Cup last year.

Under Rohit's captaincy, the Indian team put up a promising effort in the marquee event in Australia but fell short of the title win after losing against England in the semifinal.

But in a recent development, the 36-year-old has commented on the participation in the T20 World Cup 2024. During an event in the USA, Sharma stated that everyone in the USA would be excited for the tournament and the team looks forward to it.

"More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup happening in this part of the world.  So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that," Sharma said in a video being surfaced on the Internet.

Rohit also mentioned ODI World Cup, saying that the team would try everything to win the tournament and end the long and frustrating wait for an ICC trophy.

"ICC tournaments are the ones you need to win, We will try our best like any other year to have the best chance to win the Trophy for India," he said.

The 36-year-old, however, continues to lead the side in Tests and ODIs but last featured in a T20 match for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians.

Rohit had a pretty ordinary season even for MI, having scored just 332 runs in 16 matches including only two half-centuries, with questions raised over his continuity in the shortest format.

The right-handed batter is the second-leading run-getter in the format and has the highest number of centuries (4) to his name as he remains the only player in history to have played in all eight editions of the T20 World Cup till date.
