Rohit Sharma wrote a new chapter in his stellar career as he recently led India to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title win, becoming only the second skipper after MS Dhoni to lead the Men in Blue to multiple ICC success.
India also won the T20 World Cup last year under Rohit's captaincy in Barbados.
In an interesting turn of events, Rohit is all set to be rewarded for his achievement as he could be retaining his captaincy in the Test format and will likely be leading the side on the England tour. India will tour England for a five-match Test series during June-August.
After a tough Australia tour where India lost 1-3, there were speculations that the national selectors may take a call on Rohit's future in red-ball cricket. However, the victory in Dubai may prolong Rohit’s Test career. The skipper had faced massive criticism after India's home Test series loss against New Zealand and a defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Notably, India remained unbeaten throughout the Champions Trophy 2025 and defeated New Zealand in the final.
As per a report in the Indian Express, Rohit has now got the backing of the BCCI and the selection committee to lead the team in the all-important Test assignment.
There were also rumours that Rohit might take a big call on his ODI career after the Champions Trophy, but the Indian skipper turned down all the debate without spelling out his long-term plans. He was asked about the next 50-overs World Cup that India is to host in 2027.
"Right now, I'm playing really well, and I'm enjoying everything I'm doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice. I can't really say 2027, because it's too far, but I'm keeping all my options open," he had told the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"It's something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there's so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don't want to leave this team. The way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them," he had said.
After disappointing performances in the second, third and fourth Test in Australia, Rohit decided to sit out for the final Test in Sydney. His highest score in the three Tests he played Down Under was 10 and his last Test fifty came in October 2024, during the home series against New Zealand.
