Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticised Rohit Sharma's captaincy in the first Test against England in Hyderabad and asserted that the result would have been different if Virat Kohli was leading the side.
Vaughen felt Rohit 'switched off' as India lost the encounter by 28 runs on the fourth day despite taking nearly 200 runs lead in the first innings. Kohli, who pulled out of the first two Test of the series, was not available for the series opener as visitors lead five-match rubber 1-0.
Ahead of the second Test of the series in Visakhapatnam, the veteran batter backed Kohli's Test captaincy over the current skipper.

"They missed Virat Kohli's captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat's captaincy that week, India wouldn't have lost the game," Vaughan said on YouTube channel 'Club Prairie Fire'.
"Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely," he added.
Earlier, Vaughan opined that Rohit's captaincy is 'very average' and being proactive on the field.
"I thought Rohit Sharma's captaincy was very, very average. I thought he was so reactive, I don't think he maneuvered his field or was proactive with his bowling changes. And he didn't have any answer to Ollie Pope's sweeps or reverse sweeps," Vaughan had written in his column for 'The Telegraph'.
Kohli led India to 40 Test wins in 68 matches under his tenure, more than MS Dhoni or any other Indian captain in the red-ball format. Under his stint, India also attained the no.1 Test ranking and also reached the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
Rohit took over as Indian Test team captain after Kohli stepped down as captain following India's tour of South Africa in 2022.
