Former India player Irfan Pathan has been quite vocal with his opinions regarding Indian Cricketers and their performances. Pathan, has also turned to full-time commentary after he announced he bid adieu to all formats of the game. Notably, Pathan was also present in Australia as a commentator, where former India Test captain dropped himself in the fifth Test because of his form. Rohit also talked to the official broadcaster to explain the rationale behind his decision. Rohit amassed 164 runs, with a single half-century, with an average of 6.20 in the three Tests he played during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Also, Irfan stated that had Rohit not been the skipper, he would've been dropped by the Gautam Gambhir-led management.

"Rohit Sharma is an amazing player in white-ball cricket, but his average in Test cricket that year was 6, so we said that if he was not the captain, he would not have had a place in the team, and this is true," Pathan said in a video shared by Lallantop.

"People say that we supported Rohit Sharma more than necessary. Of course, when someone comes to interview on your broadcasting channel, you will not misbehave with them, right? You have invited him, so you will behave politely. When Rohit came to interview, we were, of course, polite, and we had to show that, because he was our guest. So that was connected and said we were supporting him, but it was we who said...we had said that he should keep fighting, but that said, he should not have had a place in the playing XI. If he was not the captain of the team, he would have been dropped," he added.

Rohit played his final Test in Australia as he announced his retirement from red-ball before the England tour. Modern-day great Virat Kohli also followed suit with an announcement after his lacklustre from in Tests.

Bumrah Did Not Live Up To Expectation: Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan was slightly critical of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah's performance in the series, saying that the world number one Test bowler did not live up to the expectations as he played in three matches, and India did not win any of them.

"To be fair, whenever he played, he did perform. He took a five-wicket haul and got his name on the Lord's honours board. But when you are the number one bowler, there is an expectation of number one-level performance, and I felt he did not quite live up to that," Pathan concluded.
