Royal Challengers Bengaluru have announced a compensation of INR 10 lakh to the families of 11 people who lost their lives in the unfortunate stampede that took place outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team's celebration event on Wednesday.

RCB came up with the gesture in response to a massive backlash as the felicitation ceremony turned into a huge chaos. The franchise will also take responsibility for the better treatment of the injured ones, for which they have created 'RCB Cares' to raise funds. Notably, at least 33 people got injured during the incident, including a six-year-old girl.

"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased," RCB wrote in an official statement on Thursday.

"In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief," the statement added.

For those unversed, RCB lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 title on Tuesday (June 3) after beating Punjab Kings in the final, marking their first-ever trophy in men's cricket.

The Rajat Patidar-led side returned to Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4) with grand celebrations planned just after few hours after the match. The team was felicitated by the Karnataka government at the Vidhana Soudha before a victory ceremony at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. While an open bus parade was planned, it did not happen after local police denied the permissions due to a lack of preparatory arrangements.

Reacting to the incident, BCCI and IPL officials have claimed that the event was not organised by them and they had no knowledge of it. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has also indicated that the Indian cricket governing body will take a call on victory celebrations for IPL teams in the future.
