IPL 2026, RR vs CSK: Riyan Parag-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered a dominant eight-wicket win over five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday, chasing down a modest target of 128 in just 12.1 overs. Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the night with a blistering 52 off just 17 deliveries, while Yashasvi Jaiswal anchored the chase with a composed unbeaten 38 off 36 balls to seal the win.

RR's commanding victory was set up by a clinical bowling performance, as they bundled CSK out for 127 in 19.4 overs. At one stage, CSK were reeling at 57/6, before Jamie Overton's fighting 43 off 36 balls helped them post a somewhat respectable total. Jofra Archer (2/19), Nandre Burger (2/26), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/18) were the standout performers with the ball for Rajasthan.

The match also carried emotional weight for Ravindra Jadeja, who faced his former franchise after being traded to RR this season following a 13-year stint with CSK. The star all-rounder made an immediate impact, picking up two crucial wickets -- Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube -- in the same over. Jadeja grabbed attention not just for his bowling but also for his aggressive "gunfire" celebration after dismissing Dube.

Explaining the moment, Jadeja said his familiarity with Dube played a key role in executing his plan. "I have known him for a long time. I bowled to him regularly in the nets. I know how he thinks and what he looks to do. I was prepared for that and tried to bowl outside off, because I knew he would look to play big shots against me," Jadeja said in the post-match interview.

"I felt the wicket was a bit sticky, and the ball was turning, so I really enjoyed bowling. My job was just to hit the right areas and let the pitch do the rest. You can't take anything for granted in cricket; no matter the target, you have to work hard, play your shots, and give your 100 per cent," the star all-rounder added.

Winning the toss, RR opted to bowl first, and Archer (2/19), Burger (2/26) and Jadeja (2/18) made CSK toil hard for every run as they sunk to 57/6 at one point. Knocks from Jamie Overton (43 in 36 balls, with two fours and two sixes), Kartik Sharma (18), Sarfaraz Khan (17) helped CSK reach 127 in 19.4 overs before they ran out of batters.

Sryavanshi (52 in 17 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (38* in 36 balls, with three fours and a six) set up a platform for an easy win with a quickfire 75-run stand. Sooryavanshi became the third fastest to an IPL fifty.

While Rajasthan ticked all the boxes, CSK looked completely out of sync in their campaign opener. Apart from Overton's resistance, the batting unit failed to deliver under pressure. Both teams had finished at the bottom of the table last season and underwent major changes, including the high-profile swap of Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson.
