Ex-India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has finally reacted that he won't be becoming the next president of the BCCI. Since the last few days, speculations have been rife that he is being considered as Roger Binny's replacement. But SRT Sports Management Private Ltd has released a statement and has confirmed that nothing of this sort is happening.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),” the statement released from SRT sports management said.
“We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” it said.
The position of BCCI's president has been left vacant after Roger Binny announced his retirement earlier this year, as he is now 70 years old. According to the board's rules, no one can continue to work beyond that age. For now, vice-president Rajeev Shukla is working as the acting president.
The next election of the office bearer would be held in BCCI's next AGM later this month, and there were rumours that Tendulkar has been approached for this role. As per a Dainik Jagran report, Tendulkar, who is known for breaking lots of records, was in contention for this position.
It has been a trend that ex-cricketers can become BCCI President, and this started way back in 2019, when Sourav Ganguly took this position. Roger Binny, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, succeeded Ganguly.
Sachin Tendulkar hasn't held any administrative post
It should be noted here that Tendulkar has never held this position before, and in order to become a BCCI president, one must be an active member of a state cricket association. According to the BCCI constitution, all ex-cricketers can become part of their state cricket associations. But in order to apply for any office bearer in the BCCI, the state cricket association should then file a nomination.
Tendulkar is one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He had created lots of records, like he had scored the most runs in the longest format and ODIs, and had also scored the most hundreds in Test cricket.
He had also created the record of scoring the most hundreds in the 50-over format, which was broken by Virat Kohli in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Kohli achieved this milestone at the Wankhede Stadium during the semifinal against New Zealand.
