IND vs ENG: India's star batter Sai Sudharsan, who recently got his first India Test call-up for the five-match Test series against England, talked about playing in county cricket and reckoned that sticking to the basics is important. The youngster had a dream run during the ongoing season of the IPL as he scored 759 runs while playing for Gujarat Titans.
Their stint ended with heartbreak as they lost to the Mumbai Indians during the first Eliminator.
Sudharsan has had experience playing in County cricket for the last few years and will be joining the India A team in order to prepare for the upcoming Test series. But this now looks highly unlikely as the Men in Blue would be flying for the UK on 6th June.
“I think I have played seven games in county cricket, so it gave me a great experience, to be honest. It improved my batting multiple folds in terms of technique and in terms of basics too. It told me basics is the most important thing in batting," Sudharsan was quoted as saying to the PTI.
“So, I think it should help me, and I will focus more on what I learned and I will try and be aware and create that awareness before going into the series," he said.
After his dream run during IPL 2025, the youngster admitted that it would be challenging for him to switch to the longer format but is quite confident that he adapt quickly.
“Definitely, after a long three months of white-ball tournament, certain things would have changed in your batting. I think focusing more on basics and bringing those back to red-ball cricket will take some time. We will have a good time before the series starts. In our mind, we were planning only to leave on the 4th from IPL, so we were not thinking about when to leave for India A or the Test team, but if that was the plan the Test team would have left on the 6th, but now we will have to have a conversation and see how it goes," he concluded.
