Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Indian women's team star opener Shafali Verma has reckoned that she got inspired by Rohit Sharma's style of batting during the powerplay. She revealed that she enjoyed watching him bat in the power play. She also took the name of Australian skipper Alyssa Healy as another batter whose batting style inside the powerplay impressed her. She reminisced about Rohit Sharma's innings during the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup and talked about the brilliant knocks that he played as an opener. Shafali will be representing India in the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
"I would choose India's Rohit Sharma because the way he utilizes the Powerplay is memorable to watch. Even in the World Cup, there are 2-3 innings I can recall. I always feel good watching how he makes the most of the Powerplay," Shafali was quoted as saying to Star Sports.
Shafali inspired by Rohit
Rohit performed brilliantly during the powerplay at the mega-event, especially in their Super 8 stage clash against Australia, where he scored a brilliant knock of 91 runs. The youngster Shafali announced her arrival in style during the 2020 Women's T20 World Cup, where the Women in Blue qualified for the summit clash for the first time.
But Australia defeated them in the final. They once again lost to the same opponent in the semifinal last year, who then defeated South Africa in the summit clash. The Alyssa Healy-led side would be coming into this mega-event as the reigning champions.
'I would say Alyssa Healy because whenever she is in good form, she makes the most of the Powerplay and continues to build her innings afterward. She always looks to play the full 20 overs, so I would choose her", she concluded.
