JE Sports Desk: The Indian team will be in action in some mouthwatering events this year, having already lost the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) to Australia earlier this month.
The Men in Blue will also be in action in the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup at home later this year.
Another enormous event is the Asian Games where the Indian team will be eyeing to do well when it comes to participating in the huge events.
According to reports, Shikhar Dhawan is most likely to be the captain of the B team that will travel to Hangzhou in China for the major event.
Earlier it was reported that the BCCI will send a B team as the regular team including the main players will be busy in the ODI World Cup at home during that period.
The discussion on the same and other pressing matters will take place during the BCCI's Annual General Meeting on July 7.
Dhawan, who is currently out of the ODI team setup is believed to be the perfect contender to lead the side that will majorly include the domestic players having so much experience under his belt.
“Shikhar Dhawan's name is doing rounds as the captain of the India B team that will take part in the quadrennial extravaganza,” PTI reported on Thursday.
The Asian Games, also known as Asiad will run from September 23 to October 8, 2023, with Dhawan who hasn't been in contention for the ODI squad since December last year, following inconsistent performances in the fifty-over format.
It won't be the first time when Dhawan could be leading the Indian team as the left-handed opener led the side against New Zealand in a three-match ODI series last year and also led a second-string team against Sri Lanka in both, ODIs and T20Is in 2021.
Cricket was last staged in the Asian Games in the 2014 edition in Incheon. Indian teams had not taken part in that competition nine years ago.
On the other hand, the women's team will be going to the event being a full-strength side as they will be one of the contenders to win the gold. Harmanpreet Kaur's side clinched the sliver in Commonwealth Games last year just falling short in the final against the mighty Australian side.
