Mumbai Cricket Team vs Himachal Pradesh Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Indian middle-order batter and vice-captain marked his return to competitive Cricket with a solid 53-ball 82 against Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. Iyer, who was away from the sport for almost three months due to injury, batted in his usual 'aggressive' manner for Mumbai in their sixth Elite Group C match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 31-year-old smashed 10 boundaries and 3 sixes in his knock, which fell short of a deserving hundred.
Notably, Iyer is also leading the side in the absence of Shardul Thakur, who was ruled out due to an injury.
To proceed further in the tournament, Mumbai face Himachal Pradesh in a must-win contest at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur.
Along with Shreyas, teammate Musheer Khan too scored at a healthy strike-rate (73 runs from 51 balls) of 143. Iyer added a stand of 65 runs off just 39 balls for the fourth wicket with Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav (24 runs from 18 balls).
Iyer Likely To Be Picked In India's XI
Iyer, who will serve as vice-captain for the 15-member squad for the ODI series against New Zealand, is likely to be picked in India's playing XI without any doubts. It is worth noting that Iyer's participation was subject to fitness, as stated by BCCI in the media release.
Mumbai Finished On 299 In 33 Overs
Shivam Dube scored 20 off 15 balls, and Sairaj Patil, who provided a valuable boost with 25 off just nine deliveries. Shams Mulani added 11 off five balls, while Hardik Tamore remained unbeaten on 19 to push Mumbai close to the 300-run mark.
For Himachal Pradesh, three bowlers claimed three wickets each. Kolkata Knight Riders seamer Vaibhav Arora returned figures of 3/63, while Abhishek Kumar picked up 3/62. Kushal Pal also had figures of 3/52.
