India's star opener Shubman Gill and Sri Lanka women's captain Chamari Athapaththu have been named as the Player of the Month for September in their respective categories.
Gill, who hasn't played a match in the ongoing ODI World Cup, was in sublime touch as he scored big and crucial runs in ODIs ahead of the marquee tournament.
Gill held off teammate Mohammed Siraj and England opener Dawid Malan to claim the award, having scored 480 runs in the ODI format at an average of 80 during September.
He was the top run-getter in the Asia Cup 2023 and helped the Indian team lift the title for the record eighth time. He then smashed 178 runs in the first two innings against Australia as India clinched the series ahead of the World Cup at home.
The right-hander smashed a century against Australia (104) in the second ODI with another coming against Bangladesh (121) during the Asia Cup.
On the other hand, Chamari Athapaththu has been going through the same consistency as she overpowered South Africa pair Laura Wolvaardt and Nadine de Klerk to earn the award.
Athapaththu had a memorable month, having helped her team clinch a stunning series victory in England.
She was the key contributor as Sri Lanka picked up a series win over England for the first time in any format, winning two of their three Women's T20I clashes.
Athapaththu was named player of the series, having scored 114 runs and taking five wickets as Sri Lanka started the month with two critical Women's T20I wins against England.
She put up crucial scores of 55 and 44 against England, along with bowling figures of 1/11 and 3/21.
In the women's Asia Cup later in September, she was one of the top scorers with her team facing Thailand, Pakistan, and India.
