Asia Cup 2025 India Squad Announcement: The build-up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 has been so intense so far, with all eyes set on India's squad, which will likely be announced on Tuesday in the presence of BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Apart from other speculations, there has been a lot regarding the possibility of Shubman Gill's inclusion in the team for the tournament, which is scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. Gill is a regular for India in the ODI and Test formats. His memorable outing in the Test series against England has triggered the young batter's potential selection.

It has been a while since India picked a full-strength T20I squad; the last time they did so was for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which they won in the USA and West Indies under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Gill was a travelling reserve for that tournament, outside the main 15. Since then, India's T20I selections have been influenced by scheduling and injuries.

Notably, Gill was captain of a second-string team for the T20I series in Zimbabwe just after the World Cup last year. He was vice-captain of a near full-strength squad for the T20I series in Sri Lanka later in July that year.

Gill was not picked for India's home T20Is against Bangladesh in October, the T20Is in South Africa in November, and the home T20Is against England in January this year. In his absence, Axar Patel was elevated to the T20I vice-captaincy, whereas Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have emerged as the regular openers.

Recently, a report in Sportstar claimed that the selectors are all set to make a bold call and leave Gill and Jaiswal out of the squad for the Asia Cup. Ajit Agarkar and the team management are all set to retain the core group that has excelled under Gautam Gambhir's coaching in T20Is recently.

While the debate and speculations continue to do the rounds, let's take a look at Gill's record and stats in T20I cricket.

Shubman Gill T20I Record

Gill made his T20I debut for India during the home series against Sri Lanka in January 2023. In his maiden outing, Gill opened the innings for the hosts with Ishan Kishan but managed to score just 7 runs in 5 balls before he was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana.

The right-handed batter has played 21 T20I matches for India so far, having scored 578 runs at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate of 139.28. He has scored three fifties and a century in the format, with his best score being 126, which he scored against New Zealand.

The 25-year-old has had a remarkable performance in IPL cricket lately. After spending early days with Kolkata Knight Riders, Gill joined Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and impressed straightaway with a season of 483 runs in 16 matches to help his side clinch the title in their maiden season in the tournament.

Gill had a blast in IPL 2023 as he smashed a plethora of records and smashed 890 runs at an average of 59.33, hitting three centuries. He was appointed as the new GT skipper and ended up scoring 426 and 650 runs in the IPL 2024 and 2025 seasons.
