SL vs BAN 2nd Test Day 1: Sri Lanka's Sonal Dinusha, who made his debut, and pacers Vishwa Fernando and Asitha Fernando took two wickets apiece and helped the host reduce Bangladesh to 220/8 at stumps on the first day of the second Test match in Colombo. Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto had won the toss and opted to bat first.

This decision didn't work in their favor as they had a disappointing start as they lost their first wicket after scoring just five runs.

Opener Anamul Hauqe couldn't take advantage of the lifeline he got after the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis dropped a sitter in pacer Asitha Fernando's over. But Haque eventually got out without scoring any runs.

Mominul Haque and Shadnam Ismail then helped the team bounce back by stitching a gritty partnership of 38 runs but Sri Lankan skipper Dhanjaya de Silva dismissed Mominul as Pawan Rathnayake took his catch. Bangladesh was thus reling at 71/2 till lunch.

The hosts then took two wickets in quick succession post-lunch. Fernando dismissed Shanto, who had scored hundreds during both innings of the series opener in Galle, and was caught behind by Mendis after scoring just eight runs. Off-spinner Tharindu Rathnayake then dismissed Shadman as de Silva took the catch and had scored just 46 runs, which was the most by any batter in the innings till now, and left the visitors tottering at 76/4.

Sri Lanka missed another opportunity to take a wicket as Lahiru Udara failed to take Mushfiqur Rahim's catch while standing in the deep.

Rahim and Litton Das helped the team bounce back by stitching a partnership of 67 runs for the fifth wicket and helped the team bounce back. The ball had touched the edge of Das's bat and this Mendis took the catch and then Vishwa Fernando also didn't miss another chance and took Rahim's catch while standing in the deep.

Dinusha registered brilliant figures of 2/22.

Perfect Debut

Star all-rounder Dinusha made his debut in the largest format and replaced Angelo Matthews in the playing XI. He had scored 2478 runs after playing in 48 first-class matches at a staggering average of 40 and has taken 99 first-class wickets.

Pacer Milan Rathnayak was dropped from the playing XI owing to an injury and was replaced by Vishwa Fernando. Bangladesh's star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who gave the series opener a miss owing to an injury, had replaced Jaker Ali in the playing XI.

There was a long rain delay which made it possible to just bowl 71 overs of the match on Day 1. The match would begin 15 minutes earlier on the second day. The series opener, which was held at Galle last week, ended in a tie.
