SA vs AUS WTC Final 2025: South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets during the WTC summit clash at Lord's on Saturday. On the back of Aiden Markram's match-winning knock of 136 runs, they were able to chase the target of 282 runs during the fourth innings and thus ended their 27-year-old ICC title drought. South Africa had won the third WTC summit clash as skipper Temba Bavuma scripted history as he has become just the second player in the world besides England's Percy Chapman to have won nine out of the first 10 Tests as a skipper.

Chapman had won his first nine Test matches as England skipper and then lost the 10th Test match against Australia by seven wickets at the Lord's Cricket Ground way back in 1930. At the same time, of the 10 matches that they have played till now as skipper, Bavuma has helped South Africa win nine matches and their one clash against the West Indies ended in a tie last year.

As far as the list of skippers who have won the most matches in the first 10 matches, besides Bavuma and Chapman, the other captains are- Douglas Jardine (England), Warwick Armstrong (Australia), Lindsay Hassett (Australia), Waqar Younis (Pakistan), Ricky Ponting (Australia), and Ben Stokes (England). All six of these had won eight of their first 10 matches. After South Africa's win at Lord's on Saturday, Bavuma has become one of the most successful Proteas skippers in WTC.

Bavuma had won nine WTC matches, while Dean Elgar ended his captaincy by winning eight matches.

Bavuma's winning streak as South Africa's captain began after defeating West Indies by 40 runs in Providence last year and then the Proteas had won consecutive Test matches against Bangladesh by seven wickets and an innings and 273 runs.

They then defeated Sri Lanka during a two-match Test series in their backyard then defeated Pakistan and then scripted history by defeating Australia in the WTC summit clash.
