South Africa National Cricket Team vs England Cricket Team Match Scorecard: South Africa defeated England by 5 runs in the 2nd ODI match at the iconic Lord's in London on Thursday, September 4. The Proteas have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.

This is South Africa's second bilateral ODI series win against England in England, which has come after a long wait of 27 years. South Africa's last ODIs series win on an English tour was in 1998, when they defeated Adam Hollioake’s team 2-1 in a 3-match series.

England have witnessed disappointing results in the ODI format lately. This was England's fourth straight defeat against the Proteas in the ODIs. They have played 6 bilateral ODI series after the 2023 ODI World Cup, and interestingly, England have won just 1 while the Proteas pocketed 5.

England, who are now captained by young batter Harry Brook, have a win percentage of 31.8 in this period (won 7 out of 22 ODIs); only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe from full member teams have a lower win percentage than England.

A new record of a total of 655 runs in an ODI game at Lord's was set during the ENG vs SA 2nd match. Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs (58) shared a century partnership in just 101 balls, with their stand eventually helping South Africa post 330 for 8 in 50 overs.

The hosts required a record-breaking effort to chase down the total. However, they were restricted to 325/9 in their 50 overs despite the half-centuries from Joe Root (61), Jacob Bethell (58) and Jos Buttler (61).

Nandre Burger was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, having taken 3 wickets for 63 runs in his 10 overs whereas Keshav Maharaj bagged two scalps.

"Very proud. Brought some pride and enjoyment to the people back home, and also the ones who came in here enjoyed a good game," SA skipper Temba Bavuma said in the post-match presentation.
