West Indies Champions vs South Africa Champions Match: South Africa defeated the West Indies in the second match of the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025. The rain-marred contest witnessed a bowl out to identify the winner in the end.
The match was made a 11-overs per side contest due to weather interruptions. After being put into bat first, the West Indies champions posted a total of 79/5 in their 11 overs. Lendl Simmons was their top run-getter, having played a 28-run knock whereas Chadwick Walton made a contribution of unbeaten 27 runs in 21 deliveries. He smashed a boundary and two sixes.
Aaron Phangiso was the pick of the bowlers as he took two wickets whereas Hardus Viljoen, JJ Smuts and Duanne Olivier found a scalp each as well. South Africa had to chase down 81, but they could manage 80, which led to a bowl-out. During their run chase, South Africa were reduced to 8/2 in the third over before Hashim Amla and Sarel Erwee stitched a crucial 42-run partnership for the third wicket.
After Amla was dismissed by Sheldon Cottrell in the eighth over, South Africa couldn’t build any more partnerships and could manage 80, one run short of the DLS target of 81.
According to bowl-out rules, which are very similar to the penalty shootout in football, the team which hits the stumps the most is declared the winner of the match.

For the West Indies, Fidel Edwards, Cottrell, Ashley Nurse and Dwayne Bravo all missed the target as South Africa managed a thrilling win. The Proteas will next be up against India in a classic clash on July 22 in Northampton, while the Windies will take on England on the same day at the same venue.
Talking about the WCL, the clash between India Champions and Pakistan Champions, which was scheduled to be played on Sunday, was called-off after many Indian players pulled out. The decision was announced by the organisers on social media after the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Suresh Raina decided against playing the much-awaited fixture.
