In a surprising turn of events, South Africa's star all-rounder Beyers Swanpoel had left the summit clash of the CSA Provincial One-Day challenge Division One halfway through with eight overs remaining as he had to take a flight to the United Kingdom. While playing for the Lions, Swanepoel bowled his 10 overs, taking 3/44 as his team defended a target of 248 against the Titans in Johannesburg on 29th March.
Swanepoel is supposed to be in Worcestershire in County cricket.
What makes this incident strange is that the Lions didn't know of Swanepoel's plans and were allowed to field a substitute fielder for a short while, as the pacer had left the ground along with others, thinking he had sustained a niggle.

The Titans then made an e. It was revealed that Swanepoel left the venue after bidding his teammates goodbye in the dressing room, then took a 7:30 p.m. flight. The Lions weren't allowed to field any more substitutes, so they had to play with 10 players. They did lose the match on the last ball.
What Action Will Lions Take Against Swanepoel?
Jono Leaf Wright, the Lions' chief executive, expressed his disappointment with Swanpoel's actions, and ESPNCricinfo reported that there is a high chance the team will end his contract.
“I am extremely disappointed in Beyers. His actions are completely at odds with the team's culture and values, which we have worked to build over the last six years. He has let the union and the fans down," Leaf Wright was quoted as saying to ESPNCricinfo.

Will Cricket South Africa Spring Into Action?
According to ESPNcricinfo, Eddie Khozha, the executive for Cricket South Africa's domestic cricket, has revealed that they have launched an investigation into this incident in accordance with NOC regulations. We will advise everyone accordingly on the way forward once the investigation is concluded within 48 hours," Khozha told ESPNCricinfo.
