SL vs BAN 1st Test Day 2: Bangladesh's star batter Mushfiqur Rahim scored a brilliant unbeaten knock of 141 runs and also stitched a partnership of 74 runs with Litton Das and helped Bangladesh score 383/4 till lunch on the second day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka. They stitched a gritty partnership of 91 runs during the first session on the second day and just their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto got out, who too scored a brilliant knock of 148 runs.
Shanto and Mushfiqur stitched a brilliant partnership of 264 runs for the fourth wicket and were just three runs behind breaking their record partnership for the fourth wicket in the longest format.
Shanto mistimed the shot, as he tried to go big, and Angelo Matthews, who was standing at mid-off dove and took a stunning catch. Shanto played his knock patiently, in which he smashed 15 fours and one huge six.
While Bangladesh tried to keep the scoreboard ticking, the hosts were desperately looking for ways to take wickets as Litton Das, who came after Shanto's dismissal, scored a gritty knock of 43 runs and thus helped the team be in driver's position.
The Sri Lankan bowlers were seen struggling against Das. He took a risky single after Mushfiqur smashed the ball towards the covers but it was a slow response. Dhanjaya de Silva was seen running from slip as he caught the ball properly but threw the ball towards the wrong end as both the batters were seen running towards the striker's end.
Pathum Nissanka dropped a sitter while standing at short mid-wicket when Das had scored 14 runs and he then smashed three consecutive fours.
The match, which is being held at Galle is the first match of the new 2025-27 WTC cycle, and that too just a few days after South Africa scripted history by defeating Australia at the WTC final last week.
