SL vs BAN 1st Test Day 3: Sri Lanka was 100/1 at lunch on the third day of the first Test while chasing Bangladesh's mammoth first innings target of 495 runs. Pathum Nissanka spearheaded Sri Lanka's batting attack by playing brilliant cover drives.

He survived a nervy run-out dismissal after he had scored 36 runs as Bangladesh's Mominul Haq dropped a difficult catch while standing at short leg in Nayeem Hasan's over.

Till lunch, Nissanka scored an unbeaten gritty knock of 46 runs and along with Dinesh Chandimal, who scored an unbeaten knock of 22 runs, helped the hosts bounce back by maintaining his composure.

The hosts lost just one wicket during the first session as Lahiru Udara was dismissed after scoring 29 runs.

The right-hand batter was looking in sublime form but he got out by a soft dismissal as the bat's leading edge had touched the ball in spinner Taijul Islam's over. That's how the batter's promising innings came to an end in the longest format.

Nahid Rana was the pick among the Bangladesh's bowlers. The young fast bowler was able to beat the bat consistently despite going wicketless in a spell that consisted of good speed and his line and length were brilliant at the pitch.

During the first session, the Sri Lankan bowlers bowled just 16 balls to skittle the visitors out. Bangladesh had ended the second day on a high as they were 458/4 but they suffered a batting collapse and could score just 37 runs and lost six wickets.

Asitha Fernando was the pick among the Sri Lankan bowlers as he took a four-wicket haul. He received assistance from other bowlers like Milan Rathnayak, who too took three wickets.

It was Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim, who dominated the first two days as he scored a brilliant knock of 163 runs and showed his grit and determination. He stitched a brilliant partnership of 264 runs with Najmul Hossain Shanto, who too scored 148 runs and thus helped Bangladesh dominate earlier in the match.
