Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, Asia Cup 2025: Sri Lanka have kicked off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on a positive note as they defeated Bangladesh by 6 wickets in match 5 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, September 13.

With an aim to defend their Asia Cup T20 title, Sri Lanka produced an all-round performance to pick up the first two points. However, they managed to remain second in the group B standings, only behind Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka chased down the 140-run target in just 14.4 overs with Kamil Mishara hitting the winning runs. Star opener Pathum Nissanka was the best performer for Sri Lanka in the match as he smashed a remarkable half-century. He scored 50 runs in just 34 balls on the back of six fours and a six.

Earlier, Bangladesh were off to a horrible start after being put into bat first as they lost both their openers with nothing on the scoreboard. They were soon reduced to 53/5 in the eighth over. Skipper Litton Das scored 28 runs, whereas Tanzid Hasan (0), Parvez Hossain Emon (0), Towhid Hridoy (8) and Mahedi (9) departed cheaply.

Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain recovered things brilliantly for Bangladesh and took them to a fighting total. The duo stitched an 86-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

"Pathum said to just play a normal game, take your time and do your thing. Very happy to win a game for the country again. I believe in my strengths and work hard for it," Kamil Mishara said after being adjudged as the Player of the Match.

Sri Lanka will next face Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday, whereas Bangladesh will be up against Afghanistan on Tuesday.
