Sri Lanka National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team:
Mark Chapman's resilient half-century and Mitchell Hay's solid 49 proved crucial for New Zealand, steering the team to 209 against Sri Lanka's formidable bowling lineup in the rain-curtailed second ODI at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
New Zealand vs Sri Lanka:
Dunith Wellalage made an instant impact for Sri Lanka, claiming the crucial wicket of Tim Robinson with a superbly crafted delivery in the game's second over, after the team opted to field first.
Building on his momentum, Will Young unleashed a barrage of boundaries, finding able support from Henry Nicholls, as the duo propelled New Zealand's innings forward with confidence.
In the 8th over, Maheesh Theekshana struck a crucial blow, dismissing Henry Nicholls with a masterful seam-up delivery that swung back sharply into the left-hander. Nicholls, attempting a push, played with an angled bat, only to see the ball clip the inside edge and crash into the off-stump, sending the bail tumbling.
Despite Sri Lanka's bowlers exerting a stranglehold on the game with their economical spell, Will Young and Mark Chapman showed resilience, scraping together valuable singles to maintain a modest scoring rate.
Young's stay at the crease was cut short as he was dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay after scoring 26 runs. After the 18th over rain again interrupted the match.
A stunning catch by Avishka sent Glenn Phillips back to the pavilion off Charith Asalanka's delivery. Phillips' ambitious sweep shot, though forcefully struck, lacked finesse, and Avishka's athleticism and safe hands sealed the dismissal.
Chapman and Mitch Hay then forged a crucial partnership hammering Sri Lanka bowlers all around the ground. With a massive six off Dunith Wellalage's delivery, Chapman brought up his 1st ODI fifty in 65 balls.

In the same over Asitha Fernando removed Michael Bracewell for a duck. In the 41st over, Jeffrey Vandersay struck twice, removing Mitchell Santner and Nathan Smith.
Mitchell Hay fell agonizingly short of his half-century, dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana for 49, as New Zealand's innings came to a close at 209 runs in 45.1 overs.
