SL vs BAN 1st Test Day 5: Incessant rains led to lunch being called early on the fifth and the last day of the 1st Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and that left the visitors frustrated as they were on the verge of winning their first away Test match. The match was being held for just 80 minutes on Day 5 and then it started raining and thus stopped the match for what was expected to be a nail-biting thriller. Under overcast conditions and with covers still on at the pitch, the on-field umpires made the right decision of calling an early lunch.

The Bangla Tigers, who had won just seven of their 66 away Test matches, were dominating till the stumps on the fourth day, as they had scored 177/3 during their second innings and were leading by 187 runs.

Bangladesh had scored 237/4 on the fifth day and were leading by 247 runs but then rain played a spoilsport. Mushfiqur Rahim was the only batter, who was dismissed during the first session and he also fell short of scoring his well-deserved fifty, as he was dismissed by run out after scoring 49 runs just before the match was halted.

Mushfiqur had mistimed the shot as the ball went towards mid-on as he tried to bring up his fifty. Tharindu Rathnayake, who made his debut in the longest format in this match had smacked the ball toward another boundary.

On the other hand, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored an unbeaten gritty knock of 89 runs. He maintained his composure throughout his knock and helped the team be in the driver's position.

Bangladesh had six wickets remaining and with a huge lead on the scoreboard, they are currently leading in this match. It wasn't the threat of swing or reverse swing that loomed large but the threat of rain playing a spoilsport and the possibility of this match ending in a draw had left them frustrated.
