Big Bash League 2025:Steve Smith smashed his fourth T20 hundred during the Big Bash League match between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

He reached his hundred off 58 balls and equaled the record for most centuries in the BBL, going level with Ben McDermott. Smith slammed his third century in the history of the tournament in just his 32nd inning in the competition, while McDermott has played 100 matches in BBL.

Smith remained unbeaten on 121 off 64 balls, hitting 10 fours and seven sixes, as the Sixers posted 222 for three in 20 overs.

This was Smith’s first match of the ongoing BBL edition as he joined the Sixers after being a key component of Australia’s 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph over India earlier this month. He had played a solitary match in the BBL last season, scoring a golden duck in his only appearance.

However, Smith will only be available for the Sixers’ following two league games (January 15 and 17) and will miss the playoffs, which begin on January 21, owing to commitments with the national team.

Smith will lead Australia on its two-Test tour to Sri Lanka, which begins on January 29.

The 35-year-old’s maiden T20 century had come in the 2016 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he struck a 54-ball 101 for Rising Pune Supergiants against Gujarat Lions.

However, Smith hasn’t featured in the IPL since the 2021 season and went unsold at last year’s mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
