India Win T20 World Cup: India's triumphant captain Suryakumar Yadav has set his sights on the grandest stage of all - the Olympic Games, with the team's next target being an Olympic gold medal at the LA28 Olympics.
In the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, India handed New Zealand a thrashing of 96 runs, scripting their name in the history books by becoming the first team to defend their T20 World Cup title, the first to triumph at a home championship, and the first to win three T20 World Cup titles.
After this remarkable milestone, now Suryakumar aims to replicate this triumph on the Olympic stage, where cricket will make a comeback in 2028 after a 128-year absence.
Speaking after India's emphatic win over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final, Suryakumar declared, "Next goal is Olympics gold and the T20 World Cup, which is also in that year.”
The Olympic Games will take place in Los Angeles in August 2028, while the next edition of the T20 World Cup will be played later that year in Australia and New Zealand.
India's T20 World Cup-winning captain admitted that the euphoria of lifting the trophy hasn't quite sunk in yet, reflecting on the team's incredible journey over the past month.
"It'll take a little bit of time to sink in. We have just come out of a game. It was a good game. Playing at home. When we wake up tomorrow and go back home, I don't know where we are going, but it will be a special feeling. Whatever happened in the last two years post 2024 T20 World Cup has been unbelievable and I don't know how to express it. It has been a wonderful journey,” the India captain said.

"Obviously, it has been a wonderful journey the last one month though it didn't start the way we wanted it to start. But then it's part of the sport. Throughout the journey till today, it has been very special and collectively as a team what we've achieved is in front of you,” he added.
