Asia Cup 2025: Team India has got a major boost ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 as star batter Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly cleared a fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

All eyes will be on India's squad, which is expected to be announced in the next few days for the Asia Cup. The tournament is scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. There have been a lot of talks regarding India's possible combination for the tournament.

Suryakumar underwent surgery for a lower abdomen hernia in Germany in June. The star batter Suryakumar is expected to be present alongside chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with many pivotal calls set to be taken for India’s T20I future.

"He has cleared his fitness and will be available to captain the Indian team during the Asia Cup," a report in The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying. "He was at the COE till a few days ago, where he underwent a rehab programme and has now been declared fit. He will be attending the Indian team selection meeting."

The 34-year-old has been dealing with injury issues lately. He underwent a surgery for a similar sports hernia injury last year, too. The year before that, he underwent surgery for an ankle issue. India will hope that the injury issues don’t hamper his preparations for a crucial tournament. The Asia Cup will work as a preparatory assignment for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.

While the current T20I captain Suryakumar, is all set to make his return to the side, there have been speculations regarding the possible selection of a new skipper in the format.

Axar Patel is the current vice-captain, and he’s 31, but Shubman Gill's success with the Test team has made things a bit tricky, if reports are to be believed.

Some believe that this is the right time to appoint Gill as the T20I vice-captain, like in ODIs, to prepare him for eventually taking over from Suryakumar.
